Front and Back

The front and back are rectangular panels, with the following measuring points:

  1. Shoulder point over the breast to the floor (length ______)
  2. Shoulder point to shoulder point across the back (width _____+ 1" for seam allowance (SA) =______

Place the fabric with the selvage edges together, folded lengthwise. Measure the width of the shoulders from the selvage edge (2). Mark with chalk. Then measure the length of the garment (1). Be sure to add extra inches for hem length, seam allowance, and fudge factor. Generally, an extra 4" is good. Cut out the rectangles, and place the excess width of fabric aside for later use. This extra piece is eventually used for the front and back gores.
