Section # 4 Braided Cords

Norlund repeatedly mentions braided cords finishing the edges of hems, necklines, pocket slits, and the like. This finishing appears to have been decorative (hems) in some instances and functional in others (pocket slit edgings). Unfortunately, I have not seen any clear pictures of the braid on the garments myself. (Photocopies, yuk!). He does give a six strand braiding diagram, which I followed to create a round braid. I tried to imitate it using both three hole card weaving and three loop finger loop braiding (from T+C) but neither of them gives the same surface appearance as the six strand braid. So I can only assume that the six strand braiding gets easier with practice, otherwise this would have been a very tedious finish to produce.
